This is the last week of school. As I keep reminding the students, it’s not over till it’s over.This week , we will continue to work on Chapter 7, a chapter dedicated to Animals and animal behavior.

Monday 

Today, students will complete the Chapter Review on pages 176 and 177. They will write the questions and answer them in complete reflective sentences.

Tuesday 

Students will complete the Chapter Review they started on Monday. Today is field day, so class periods will be abbreviated today.

Wednesday

Today, students will do a project on animal behavior based on worksheets given out in class.

Thursday 

Students will be given worksheets to work on today in class. These worksheets will be review of spi’s learned throughout the school year.

Friday 

Today, students will be given review worksheets based on SPI’s that they have learned throughout the year.

This week we will be working in Chapter 7 of the Science textbook. The chapter is entitled “Animals and Behavior”.

Monday

Today students will have an overview of the Chapter. They will learn about the different classifications of animals and we’ll talk about animal reproduction. ( spi 7.4.1)

Tuesday

Today we’ll talk about animal behaviors. Specifically we’ll talk about the ways in which animals defend themselves against predators.

Wednesday

We’ll talk about animal migration today. We’ll also discuss how humans react to their environments and human seasonal rhythms.

Thursday

Today, students will be given an assessment on all of the information they have learned this week.

Friday

Students will work in their workboks today, completing Chapters five and seven.

Monday

Today, we will have the students doing a “technology in the classroom ” project. They can choose one of several scientific topics we have discussed this year and create a “comic” to express an opinion about some aspect of the topic. One example would be a comic on Global Warming. They can use information about carbon dioxide emissions and the ozone layer that we have discussed in class to come up with an idea. Mr. Blanchard will be in class today to help the students on the computers.

Tuesday

Today we will begin Chapter Six. Protists and Fungi are the subject of this chapter. We will describe the characteristics of protists , name three groups of protists and students will be given examples of each. We will talk about how protists reproduce.

Wednesday

Students will have a preview of the solar system, specifically information on Mars , in anticipation of the field trip on Thursday to the Pink Palace.
Thursday

Today , there is a seventh grade field trip to the Pink Palace to see an IMAX  movie on Mars.

Friday

Students will do a project today on Chapter Seven involving Protists and Fungi.

Science in the News

This week , students are asked to bring in a newspaper, magazine or internet article reflecting some aspect of scientific news. In addition , they are asked to write a paragraph explaining what the articl talks about and another paragraph with their reaction to the article. That’s a total of two paragraphs on a separate sheet of looseleaf stapled to the original article . Be sure to put the students name and class period on the article and on the paragraphs .

This week we will complete the SCS curriculum entitles “Sex Respect” and begin  Chapter Five in the Science Textbooks.

Monday

Today, as part of the Sex Respect curriculum, we will read from the workbook and discuss outside influences on students and what they can do to avoid such influences in their lives. There will be a worksheet to complete and a test to take today.

Tuesday

Today is the final day of the Sex Respect curricuum. Today’s emphasis will be on AIDs and HIV.

Wednesday

Today we will begin Chapter Five in class. Students have already read the Chapters ( Tuesday and Friday of this week) We will look at the Chapter reviews and discuss Bacterial reproduction and the affect that bacteria has on plants , it’s causes and cures of disease.Content Standard 4.0 s.p.i.7.4.1 (a)

Thursday

Today, we’ll learn about viruses.Students will,earn about two kinds of viral reproduction . s.p.i. 7.4.1. (a)

Friday

Today there will be an assessment based on all the information in Chapter Five. Students can review their section reviews and their Chapter review to prepare for this assessment .

Monday

In keeping with the SCS curriculum for Science, we will begin a segment entitled “Sex Respect”. Today, students will read and discuss pages 1 through 14 in the Sex Respect student workbook.

Tuesday

There will be a substitute teacher today. The students will be working on the next Chapter in the Science curriculum , Bacteria and Viruses.(Chapter 5)

Wednesday

Today we will resume with the sex respect curriculum . Students will read several selections in the workbook, and answers questions relating to the reading.

Thursday

Continuing with the Sex Respect curriculum, students will read, “Free sex: I it? Or isn’t it? They will answer questions on page 29 entitled , “What do you think?”. Students will fill out a chart of character growth and complete a test on page 34.

Friday

Students will read silently and discuss the reading. They will do a word search ( page 35) and enter charater qualities learned during this day on character growth.

Today, the last day of our Sex Respect segment, we will spend the day on Aids instruction.

Monday

Today, students will do a practice probe of all skills from the past year. This includes topics on cell structure and function, food production and energy for life, heredity and reproduction, atmospheric cycles and structure and properties of matter. The S.P.I s are 7.1s.p.i. 1 through 5, 7.3 spi 1 through 8, 7.4 spi 1 through 4, 7.8 spi.1 through 4 and 7.12 spi 1 through 4 respectively.

Tuesday

Students will take the TCAP exam today in Language Arts. We will have a shortened class schedule today . Only 2nd and 3rd periods will meet for Science today. We will have review Science Test concepts  today in class.

Wednesday

Students  will take the TCAP exam today in Mathematics. We will have a shortened class scheduled today. Only 4th and 5th periods will meet today.We will review Science Test concepts today in class.

Thursday

Students will take the TCAP exam today in Science . We will have shortened class schedules today. Only 2nd and 3rd periods will meet for Science today. We will have a review of concepts today.

Friday

Students will take the TCAP exam today in Social Studies. We will have shortened class schedules today. Only 4th and 5th periods will meet for Science today. We will have a review of concepts today.

Note to Parents :

Students do their best on test after a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast. Please send your child to school prepared mentally and physically to do their best.We appreciate everything you do to make this time as stress free for your child as possible.
