This week , we will begin Chapter 14, entitled “The Flow of Fresh Water”.

Monday

Today, students will learn about the water cycle. They will be asked to draw their own version of the water cycle showing concepts such as precipitation, runoff, evaporation, infiltration, percolation and condensation.

Tuesday

We’ll continue to discuss the role that rivers play in the movement of fresh water, learning that rivers are changing, dynamic systems that continually shape the land. We’ll discuss the factors that contribute to rates of steam erosion and talk about the life cycle of rivers.

Wednesday

Today, students will do vocabulary from Chapter 14 as a way to familiarize them with words that they will see from now on. We’ll talk about the drainage basin and students will learn to identify the stages of river development.Words are: erosion, watercycle, tributary, drainage basin, divide, channel and load.More words included in this Chapter are:

deposition, alluium, delta, alluvial fan, flood plain, ground water, water table, aquifier, porosity, permeability, recharge zone, and artisan spring.

Thursday

Today , we’ll talk about Stream and River deposits, deposition in water and on land and water underground ( Springs and wells) and underground erosion and deposition.

Friday

Today, students will need to bring their papers that are due for their Science projects. They have all been given outlines for these papers and we’ve discussed them at length. Their Science Projects are due a week from today and each student needs to display their project on a tri-fold board ( available at the bookstore for$ 3.00) Today, students will be tested on the concepts taught this week, primarily, the water cycle and accompanying information.
