This week we will be doing T-cap review in all classes.Students will learn various test taking tips and techniques. They will learn strategies on how to read and interpret questions. The schedule will go as follows:
Monday
Cell Structure and Function ( P.I. 7.1 spi 1,2,3,4,5)
Today we will look at questions addressing cell structure and function, distinguishing between plant and animal cells, mitosis and the cell cycle ( including cytokinesis), osmosis and diffusion and levels of organization within the cell.
Tuesday
Today, we will review quetions pertaining to Food production and energy for Life. (P.I. 7.3 spi.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8)Specifically, we’ll talk about how to answer questions on plants needs , photosynthesis and respiration, how animals get oxygen and the oxygen -carbon dioxide cycle.
Wednesday
Today, we’ll look at various questions about Heredity and Reproduction. (P.I. 7.4 s.p.i.1,2,3,4)
In the seventh grade, all of these questions will be based on flower structure and function, and the types of asexual and sexual reproduction of plants.
Thursday
Today, we’ll look at questions on the Atmospheric Cycles. (P.I. 7.8 spi 1,2,3,4) These questions will address temperature, evaporation and condensation, the water cycle, predicting weather and weather maps. We’ll look at ways to interpret these questions and the best answer choices.
Friday
Today, we’ll look at sample questions on Structure and Properties of Matter ( P.I. 7.12 spi’s 1,2,3,4)
We’ll address questions relating to measurable properties of matter, elements ,compounds and mixtures and the differences between them and solids . liquids and gases and the comparisons and differences between them.
Please note the homework above. It is due by today in the baskets for each class.
Homework for the week of April 4,2008
One of the bellwork entries for this week was:
Which of the following describes compounds? There were four choices and the correct answer was that compounds are composed of elements that join in a specific ratio according to their masses.
With this in mind , students need to list 20 elements and twenty compounds and explain how to tell the difference by looking at their symbols. This can be one or two sentences long, but the sentences must be CRS ( complete reflective sentences) based on the bellwork.
Homework for week of March 31,2006
This week, students are asked to explain the sexual reproduction cycle of a flower in their own words. The explanation can be one paragraph long, providing that the appropriate terminology is in place.
Homework for week of March 24th.
Science in the News
This week, students are asked to find newspaper or magazine articles that reflect some aspect of Science. It could be about any newsworthy events or discoveries regarding scientific topics . The students need to attach the article to a piece of loose leaf and write one paragraph about the article and another paragraph about why they thought this article was of interest. That’s a total of two paragraphs that need to be written by the student.
Week of March 24,2008 and March 31, 2008
In anticipation of TCAPs we will be reviewing this week and next week.
